Acorn Autism is currently seeking a Speech Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team.

The Speech Language Therapist is responsible for the assessment, implementation, and consultation of skills within their scope for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental delays. Therapy is provided in a variety of formats including consultative, direct one-on-one, and group program options.

The Speech Language Therapist will have experience in Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as key domains including Receptive/Expressive Language, Assistive and Augmentative Communication, Play, and Social Pragmatics.

You will work as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team that includes a Behaviour Analyst / Registered Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech Language Pathologist, and Therapy Technicians.

You will be in communication with the child's family, kindergarten/school and other agencies to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications / training:

  • A degree in Speech Language Therapy or equivalent qualification, and eligibility for membership with the NZSTA is required.

  • If the degree is from outside New Zealand, confirmation of full membership with the NZSTA is required, and is to be sent with a cover letter and resume.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training or workshops is required.

  • Experience with the delivery of a variety of communication interventions to clients with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental delays is an asset e.g. PECS.

  • Knowledge and training on the Early Start Denver Model is an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a variety of age groups is required.

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team is an asset.

Additional requirements:

  • Clearance from a criminal record check.

  • NZ permanent residency/citizenship, or valid NZ work visa (your resume must confirm your eligibility to work in New Zealand).

  • A current full driver’s licence.

  • Ability to make at least a 1 year commitment.

Hourly pay rate: Commensurate on experience and additional training.
