Clinician Model

Your child will be seen directly by the clinician 1:1. Goals are determined by assessments, either formal or informal. Acorn Autism Clinician Model services include but are not limited to;

Speech Language Pathologist

  • Articulation/Phonological (sounds your child uses)

  • Receptive Language (understanding of words)

  • Expressive Language (use of words)

  • Social Communication / Social Skills (use of language in social contexts)

    or

Occupational Therapist

  • Fine Motor Skills (including writing)

  • Gross Motor Skills

  • Sensory Regulation

  • Self Care Skills

    or

Behaviour Psychologist

  • Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) available
    - ABA therapy refers to a collection of methods and techniques designed to increase positive behaviours and decrease negative ones
    - ABA uses positive reinforcement, not punishment
    - ABA used natural environment training as well as discrete trial training

  • Disruptive behaviour (e.g. tantrums, screaming/yelling, verbal abuse, running away, non-compliance)

  • Aggressive behaviour (e.g. pushing, hitting, punching, kicking, biting)

  • Social withdrawal (e.g. avoiding social interaction with peers or adults)

  • Stereotypic behaviour (e.g. repetitive or invariant vocalisations and/or movement)

  • Self-injurious behaviours (e.g. head-banging, biting, scratching)

  • Cognitive skills

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Food selectivity

Dietitian

  • Picky eating and/or limited intake

  • Gastrointestinal difficulties

  • The impact of diet on your child’s behaviour

Multidisciplinary / Therapy Technician Model

The Behaviour Psychologist, SLP and OT work together to develop and oversee a comprehensive therapy plan for your child. 

A Therapy Technician is able to carry out the therapy to enable your child more hours of therapy at a lower cost.
