Acorn Autism is looking for a responsible, dedicated, and experienced individual to work as Therapy Technician Lead with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at our therapy center.

Job Description: Full-time position available.

You will work as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team that includes a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, a Speech and Language Pathologist, and an Occupational Therapist.

You will implement individualised Therapy Plans where goals work on skill acquisition and behaviour reduction. You will take data on each programme to report to clinicians developing and overseeing the Therapy Plan. Additionally, upon request, you will be in communication with the child's family, school and other agencies to ensure continuity of care.

You will define, develop and lead social group programs and carer respite programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their carers. This includes conducting market research to ensure demand exists for such programs, advertising the programs within the community and outreach to school SENCOs. You will conduct intake assessments and tailor program curriculums to meet the needs of individual attendees to ensure program effectiveness.

You will develop and oversee the initial training and monitoring of Therapy Technicians alongside the clinical team, as well as provide direct therapy to clients.

You will need to be responsible, have a positive attitude, be energetic and enthusiastic, have patience, and be a fast thinker. It is also important for you to have strong play, multitasking, organisation, and communicative skills with a variety of ages. You will need to be able to follow instructions and take constructive feedback well and implement it immediately.

Qualifications / Training:

  • A degree, or completion of a post secondary program of Psychology, Educational Psychology, Speech Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Special Education, or another related field is required.

  • Knowledge and experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis, discrete trial training, and natural environment training is required.

  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental delays is required.

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team is required.

  • Completion of Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training, or workshops is an asset.

  • Completion of 40+ hours of Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) training is required.

  • Being a Registered Behaviour Technician is an asset. Acorn Autism can support you to be assessed and register with the International Behaviour Certification Board as an RBT.

Additional Requirements:

  • Clearance from a criminal record check.

  • NZ permanent residency/citizenship, or valid NZ work visa (your resume must confirm your eligibility to work in New Zealand)

  • Consistent availability.

  • Ability to make a 1 year commitment.

Hourly pay rate: $21.50-23/hr (dependant on experience and previous training)
